Hmm…the 30-degree sunny day isn’t panning out so far — it’s decidedly grey and wet so far.
The flight was OK, though not what I expected at all. Given how expensive SAS is and how much I’ve always heard about their standards, I expected better. Instead, what we got was RyanAir-worthy — a breakfast pack that you had to pay for and a constipated head air hostess.
It doesn’t feel like much has changed. Well, the buses have…they’ve got double-deckers here now and they’re not all red any more. But not much else. The bus went by Tivoli, Skala and that funny gaudily painted cinema house in downtown, and they looked exactly the same. We made a turn into what the bus driver told me was the ‘city square’ and suddenly I realised it was the same place we were driving down during the Euro ‘92 celebration when we saw man-in-the-leather-jacket-with-no-pants-on :)
I realized on the way from the airport just how peaceful this place is. Part of that is obviously to do with the culture of biking around here — I saw only one motorised scooter and luckily the woman on it rode off quickly (but noisily).
The youth hostel is OK — there are anonymous student types littered around the lobby, some napping, others on their laptops. The room I’m in has 6 bunks, triple-decked against opposite walls of a room about the size of our servant quarter at home. This should be fun :)
