After engaging in the visa dance with various Schengen countries (I have appointments with 5 of the 15 countries at this point…), I looked up the Austrian embassy. Unlike the others, they don’t charge a ridiculous £1 per minute. Instead, my 4-line email asking for an appointment was politely returned with a date and a time. Surprisingly, they seem less busy than any other Schengen country, since the interview date they gave me is well before any of the others (Denmark is 2nd).
As a Turkish colleague of mine just found out, they also have a free phone number one can call for an appointment.
