For example, if you're doing C  , you really don't want headers changing under your feet, requiring constant recompilations, whereas in Perl, you absolutely do want other people's fixes to trickle in. It's also fairly common to do large chunks of work on a single branch, in which case you don't want other people's changes coming in until you're ready for them. (Frequent branching is sadly infrequent in practice; a lot of people fret about the overhead of creating branches because they don't use the timestamp method, which I think is nothing short of genius.)&lt;/p&gt;

		<description>&lt;p&gt;Dynamic views are the MOST compelling reason to choose ClearCase.  Having worked with dynamic views on multiple team projects, it can be a painful if you forget to synch up your static view with the repository ensuring access to the latest versions of files your teammates have updated.  Why it would be deprecated is a mystery since that is the only significant and valuable advantage ClearCase offers.&lt;/p&gt;
