God damn Bon Jovi

07Jan06

Along with some of the excellent stuff I got from MT at college, some Bon Jovi slipped into my music collection. This was college, where completeness of one’s collection was more important than quality, so it has remained there since.. A few minutes ago, ‘Bed of Roses’ came on, and I realized just how badly I need to edit my collection.

I’m not going to bother to analyze this stuff — it speaks for itself well enough. Just thought I’d put down some of the more stupid lyrics so I have a quick list to point to next time I chew Bon Jovi out in public.

‘Bed of Roses’ is just one of a long line of horrible rock ballads Bon Jovi gifted us in the 80s/90s; others include ‘Always’ and “This Ain’t a Love Song”. (For the same godforsaken reason, I also have those two as well.) It features lyrics that truly transcend stupidity and demand greater attention, such as:

With an ironclad fist I wake up and
French kiss the morning

That’s not all:

A king’s ransom in dimes I’d given each night
Just to see through this payphone

And yet more:

I’ll just close my eyes and whisper,
Baby, blind love is true

There’s clearly a lot of confused thinking going on here, more proof of which comes in these lines:

I want to be just as close as the holy ghost is
And lay you down on a bed of roses

Ooh, and a hint of megalomania too:

…some blond gave me nightmares
I think she’s still in my bed
As I dream about movies
They won’t make of me when I’m dead
